Video and Voice Messages
Record and send video and voice messages to LinkedIn connections directly from the conversation inbox compose box. The recipient receives a native video or audio message in their LinkedIn inbox.
Feature Overview
This feature lives inside the existing LinkedIn Messaging experience, so two-way conversation sync continues to work as normal.
Use Cases
- Sales Outreach – Cut through a LinkedIn inbox of typed replies with a 20-second video pitch.
- Recruitment – Send a personalized voice intro to candidates without leaving your CRM.
- Customer Success – Walk customers through a feature with a short video instead of writing it out.
- Networking – Make a first impression that stands out with a video introduction.
How to Use
Recording a video message
- Open the conversation inbox in your CRM
- Set the active messaging provider to LinkedIn
- In the message compose box, click the camera icon
- Allow camera access when your browser prompts you
- Click record and capture your video (up to 30 seconds)
- Click stop when you're done — the video is optimized in the background
- Click Send Video to deliver it to the recipient's LinkedIn inbox
Recording a voice message
- Open the conversation inbox in your CRM
- Set the active messaging provider to LinkedIn
- In the message compose box, click the camera icon
- Switch to audio mode
- Allow microphone access when your browser prompts you
- Click record and capture your audio (up to 40 seconds)
- Click stop when you're done
- Click play to preview the audio before sending (optional)
- Click send to deliver it to the recipient's LinkedIn inbox
Limits
- Video – 30 seconds maximum
- Voice – 40 seconds maximum
- Available only when the conversation's active messaging provider is set to LinkedIn
The time limits keep file sizes manageable for LinkedIn's messaging system, which improves delivery reliability and avoids upload errors.
Best Practices
- Keep it short and conversational – 15–25 seconds is the sweet spot for engagement
- Look at the camera, not the screen – eye contact matters even more on video
- Test your audio first – use the playback option to confirm quality before sending
- Allow processing time – files take a few seconds to convert and upload after you hit stop
- Personalize the open – say the recipient's name in the first second to grab attention
Common Errors and Troubleshooting
Camera or microphone doesn't activate
- Cause: Browser permissions not granted
- Solution: Grant camera or microphone permission in your browser settings and refresh the page
Recording cuts off mid-sentence
- Cause: Hit the time limit (30 seconds for video, 40 seconds for voice)
- Solution: Re-record within the limit, or split your message across multiple sends
Message takes a while to send
- Cause: Media files are larger than text and require conversion before delivery to LinkedIn
- Solution: Wait a few seconds after hitting send — processing happens in the background
Send button unresponsive after recording
- Cause: Background optimization still in progress
- Solution: Wait for the processing indicator to complete before clicking send

FAQs
Q: Can I send video or voice messages to anyone on LinkedIn?
A: You can send to any LinkedIn user you can normally message — that means existing connections, or users you're in an active conversation with. The same LinkedIn messaging rules apply.
Q: What file formats are used behind the scenes?
A: Video is sent as MP4 and audio is sent as MP3. Conversion happens automatically — you don't need to choose a format.
Q: Can I upload a pre-recorded video or audio file instead?
A: This feature is for in-app recording only. To send a pre-recorded file via workflow automation, use the Send A Message action with a direct URL to the file.
Q: Why are videos capped at 30 seconds and audio at 40 seconds?
A: The limits keep file sizes manageable for LinkedIn's messaging infrastructure, which reduces delivery errors and keeps the recipient's experience snappy.
Q: Does the recipient need any special setup to receive video or voice messages?
A: No. The message appears as a native video or audio message in their LinkedIn inbox, playable on both desktop and mobile.
Q: Are video and voice messages stored in conversation history?
A: Yes. Like all LinkedIn messages, they're retained on our servers for 90 days. Important messages should be downloaded for long-term storage.
